Day 4 & 5 Austin to New Orleans

We started our morning in Austin the next day with this sweet treat. Migas, a Mexican breakfast, a kind of super de dupper soup scramble of eggs tortilla strips, beans, potatoes, and hella grease, I know sounds gross, but it was off the hook.

Next door to the Migas shop was this market, Doesnt this meat look so YUMMY! Almost makes me want to become a vegetarian. . . . . . NOT!

After breakfast we went to South Congress St. in Austin, a cool street with lots of boutiques and cool shops. There was this antique shop called Uncommon Objects, you name it they had it, old photos and fabrics, postcards, ephemera and such, old masonic aprons and other objects, lots of jewelery, and housewares. AND cool old costumes and masks like this one!

We left Austin, headed out of Texas, we had a good time but were ready to get out of there, no offense TX, This is Houston skyline, or part of it. We have been driving rural higghways mostly, so driving in Houston kind of sucked, LA type traffic!

Leaving Texas we headed into Louisiana. We could have shown you the beautiful marshy landscape with moss covered trees, lush and green but instead we thought we would share with you a real southern cultural treat! Driving along, after some decent Mexican food, and a cap gun incident gone bad, we stumbled upon this late night Race Track. These cars were serious, they sounded like giant wild animals on steriods, some had so much power the front ends lifted off the ground off the starting block (peep the picture). And they all burned rubber super tough. This is the legal, Southern version of Oakland’s sideshows, (kind of). Sorry about he blurry picture, I didn’t want to get chased out or worse so I turned my flash off.

We slept in Baton Rouge that night, and the next morning popped over to New Orleans, a true 49er heaven. Check out this old beer brewery. New Orleans is still super f@&#$, and it is so sad! This building is abandoned and only firemen are allowed to go in for known life hazardous reasons. However, I know two 49ers who were not fireman and climbed to the very tippy top of the white dome of this building just to be straight up 49er hogs! Pinkys up boys!

We saw this a lot, beads on fences, not sure what it means but it is beautiful

New Orleans had a Jazz and art festival going on, here’s a plaza in the French quarter.

The French Quarter is beautiful, it is like this down every street! could be future home of Boontling South!

We ate at this restraunt, We call spending money cooping, so we thought it was fitting, plus it was recommended to us.

And DAMN IT WAS GOOD! jumbalaya, gumbo, duck quesadillas, red rice and rabbit sausage, coleslaw, um um good!

This is what a street in New Orleans looks like, I forget what neighborhood, still very beautiful but not the French quarter though, can you tell?
We 49ered around New Orleans for quite a while, stooped and cooped, spent some time in the gorgeous city park. And as we were leaving came across this awesome cemetery. I fell in love with this wall of graves.
Another part of the cemetery had these statues, Percy said this was Jesus getting hyphy, raising the roof, with all the groupie angles in the club.

Leaving New Orleans we crossed over this super super long causeway ( I think the 2nd longest in the states maybe?) took in this amazing skyscape and headed to Mississippi.

Day 2 & 3 Socorro New Mexico to Austin Texas

So in Socorro on the 2nd morning I hit a curb, going 5mph because Percy and Mark were scissoring in the back and distracting me, this is the result

This is some crazy store a post apocolyptic center????? its in some small town in NM

So back home John Casey and I are on the BBQ quest, I told him I would hold it down

Here's what we got from this spot, not bad, not great the quest continues

then it was off to Rosewell the Alien town, we just had to stop, the whole town is full of this great stuff

Several hours later we entered this GREAT PLACE. Several more hours of driving across a flat landscape, beautiful iron red soil, and a giant sky. We ended up in Brady TX, not the best night sleep, we stayed inthe van! bad idea.

We rolled into Austin and Percy got this sweet piece of art from Joseph missing his two front Delaney who was on the corner

We met up with Matt Rebholz who I am showing with at Space 1026, he took us to his studio, a crazy, anything goes art compound, SICK!

AND YES more BBQ! this is from Iron Works, George W's favorite BBQ spot, It was good, but I think this is just one more point that Mr. Bush and I dont agree on

Then to an art opening at Domy, a great bookstore and gallery, this fiddle, banjo, guitar, standup bass, 8 plus jam session waws kickin

This is the hardest show I’ve ever had to comment on because it deals with one of those impossible questions that we ask ourselves everyday. When I open the topic all I see is an endless tangle of leafless branches in the halflight. Here are a few thoughts on the flicker of everlasting memory by Derek Weisberg.
